Directing our Steps
by Seattle ALC
“A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.”
This is a comforting verse to read on the final day of 2022. We can be reassured of the Lord’s providence in our lives as we begin another year. He alone knows what will happen in the coming year. This is because he has walked those steps before us.
He doesn’t act like a chess master moving us like pawns around the board. Instead, he looks back at us as we journey along life’s path and encourages us to follow him. He truly is the Shepherd of our souls and we as sheep may go astray, but he is always there pulling us out of the brambles that we have gotten ourselves into. We start to venture out on our own as our heart leads, but he is there telling us to keep our eyes fastened on him who has made a way for us through the wilderness.
What joy there is to know that he will carry us when troubled times come. He will wipe away all tears from our eyes, and at last when we reach that shore of Jordan, he has provided the way across to our eternal home on that far golden shore to join our loved ones there in the sweet by and by and sing praises to our Heavenly Father for all eternity.
Let us thank and praise him for his unspeakable mercies toward us in Christ!
