As a nation, we have reason to be thankful. We have a goodly heritage. Our pilgrim fathers were searching for freedom of worship. With an extraordinary amount of courage they set out upon the little-known waters of the Atlantic. With immeasurable personal sacrifice they endured the rigors of that first winter which drastically reduced their numbers. It could only have been their faith in God that sustained them in the face of what must have seemed like insurmountable odds.
These words continue to symbolize the spirit of the reformation which signaled a new era for the Christian church. It was not a new or a different work than that which was evident in the early church following Pentecost, but a continuation and a revival of that work. It was a revival of what has been and should always remain the central theme of Christianity.
