“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.”
Revelation 22:13 KJV
What wonderful words to read on the last day of 2025. As we close another year and look forward to the coming one, we can remember our Savior who is without beginning or ending. He who was promised in the garden of Eden as the one who would crush the head of the serpent. John says he was the Lamb slain before the foundation of the earth. We can look at our past year and see him carrying us each step of the way, and then we can trust that he will do so in the coming year no matter what we may encounter. There is a song we sing at New Years titled “Standing at the Portal”. The refrain says, “Onward then, and fear not, Children of the day; For His word shall never, Never pass away.”
We all know about change. If you’re like me, you resist it. Preferring the status quo. Like death and taxes, change is something that is sure to happen. Families will grow and shrink. Jobs will be started and jobs will be retired from. Children will start school and children will graduate and move away. Yet we have a God who says he is “I Am”. This doesn’t leave any room for deflection one way or the other. He is without variableness as James says. Let us cling to that Rock that is higher than us. It will be a sure fast steadiness in our world that is full of change. And let us listen to the gentle voice of His Spirit as it continues to call us into a rest with him through the work of his son Christ Jesus. The same yesterday, today, and forever. Praise God for his unspeakable mercies towards us in Christ.
