God Fights for Us

Nehemiah 4:19-20 KJV

“And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work is great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another. [20] In what place therefore ye hear the sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither unto us: our God shall fight for us.”

In August we attended a family reunion in Minnesota. It was a blessed time to gather with Anna’s immediate family and enjoy each other’s company. Many in the family live close, whereas others of us made the journey by car or plane. There was time for games, time for food, but the special time was the time for fellowship. How wonderful it is when during the course of this busy time the Word keeps coming in to the conversation and we are able to encourage each other in it.

Each of us is walking in the earthly vocation that God has called us into. This consumes a large part of our lives, so it is good to take a break and gather with not only natural brothers and sisters, but how much better when they are brothers and sisters in Christ. We all then have the same focus similar to the men building the walls of Jerusalem in Nehemiah’s time. Much like the children of Israel at that time needed to rebuild the broken walls of Jerusalem so they could have a secure city, we need that defense against the threefold enemy of the devil the world and our own flesh.

This work is great and large as our verse says, and though we may be separated by miles, we can gather together and strengthen each other by sharing what Christ has done in our hearts. This helps us to remember that while these enemies seems so close and ready to overwhelm us, God shall fight for us. The battle is not ours but His. He is more than up for the task. It is our prayer that when the last trumpet sounds that we would all be gathered together at that home across the Jordan river.

Let us praise him for his unspeakable mercies to us in Christ. Not that we aren’t allowed to speak of them, but that these tongues of clay lack the ability to do it justice.

Sweet Sleep

“When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.” Proverbs 3:24 I’ve heard it said, that we can die from lack of sleep faster than from hunger.
